My name is Dustin Driever. I graduated from Wayne State College in 1999 with my degree in Elementary Education and a coaching endorsement. I began my career teaching second grade in OPS in August of 2000. After 7 wonderful years I was given the opportunity to strengthen my school's pathway by creating a STEM curriculum at the elementary level. Over the next 9 years I would implement many engineering concepts including; K'Nex, Lego designs, code.org, the Engineering Design Process, CEENBoTs, and PLTW.
In 2016, I completed my Masters Degree in STEM Curriculum from Concordia University. I also began the next chapter in my teaching career here at Howard Kennedy Elementary. I am currently teaching STEAM classes to K-5th grade students. Some of the tools we are lucky enough to work with include; STEAMBoTs, VEX IQ, Drones, Laser cutter, two 3-D printers, coding (code.org and Tynker), Paint 3-D, Sketchup, Tinkercad, and circuits.
Many of the standards our students learn in their homerooms are carried over into STEAM and other specials. We have the opportunity to extend their learning through hands-on activities and the design process.
